The Last Gas Station on Old Route 66
Somewhere west of Holbrook stands a rusted gas station that hasn't seen a customer since the early 1980s.
The pumps are gone, the roof is collapsing, but the faded Coca-Cola sign still hangs above the door.
Places like this remind me how the interstate system quietly erased thousands of roadside businesses.
When traffic moved to the highway, towns like this simply stopped existing.

A Road That Leads to Nowhere
I found this forgotten desert highway while driving between Ely and Tonopah.
The asphalt has cracked open, and sand slowly reclaims the road.
You can still see old mile markers, though no one maintains them anymore.
At sunset the place feels strangely peaceful — like time stopped somewhere around 1972.

The Schoolhouse with No Town
Google Maps still lists the town, but it vanished decades ago.
All that remains is a small wooden schoolhouse surrounded by empty land.
Standing there you realize how fragile communities can be once the roads change.
